Who we are

Keith Appleby IS Laurelhurst Digital.

Not an agency. More than a freelancer.

Laurelhurst Digital is just me, Keith Appleby, Ph.D.

As an employee, a full-time digital strategist can easily cost $80,000-$120,000 a year, plus 1.4X overhead.

On the other hand, an agency can cost upwards of $20,000 per month with services that you don’t need & a rotating cast of account managers and support personnel who may not even be familiar with your business.

Enter the solution: Laurelhurst Digital. My offering of a fractional “digital strategist as a service”. Existing somewhere in between a part-time employee and a full-service agency. And, so much more than just another freelancer.

You need someone knowledgeable checking on your accounts every single day! With Laurelhurst Digital, that is exactly what we do, nothing ever gets neglected.

Laurelhurst Digital was founded with the intention of forming honest, genuine, profitable, & long-lasting business relationships. Get a meeting on the books today

Core Values & Beliefs

Honesty

Always value candor even when that sometimes means having tough conversations.

Fun

Work is an important part of life and it should be fun. Being a good businessperson does not mean being stuffy and boring.

Kindness

As my dissertation advisor once said to me, "You are at an elite level. We are all smart. Distinguish yourself by being kind."

Integrity

Make commitments with care and then live up to them. In all things, do what you say you are going to do.

Frugality

Frugal, but never cheap. Spend the client's money as if it were your own.

Respect

We respect the individual, and believe that individuals who are treated with respect and given responsibility respond by giving their best.

Golden Rule

We are believers in the Golden Rule. In all our dealings we will strive to be friendly and courteous, as well as fair and compassionate.

Best Effort

There is a huge difference between “good mistakes” (best effort, bad result) and “bad mistakes” (sloppiness or lack of effort).

Responsiveness

Feel a sense of urgency on all client & team requests and always respond as soon as time allows.

Second Mile Service

For both the team & clients, always be willing to go above and beyond what is expected.

Testimonials

Don't take my word for it. Hear from these satisfied clients.

Keith Appleby, Ph.D.

Founder

About me.

I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Oregon in 2012. You can see my full C.V. on my personal site.  My comprehensive exam area was in Quantitative Methodology (Statistics, Survey Research & Data Collection).

Sometimes people ask me,  “Oh, you aren’t actually using your Ph.D.?”  because I am not working in academia. The fact is: Doing digital marketing, e-commerce, web development & business analysis, I use those sociological skills and training all day long, every day. I think one thing that sets me apart from others is that when I do an audit of a Google Ads account, for example, I can just eyeball the numbers, do the math in my head, and see the patterns in the keywords and conversion rates right away. I can then immediately translate that data into actionable (and profitable) business intelligence. So, yes, I use my Ph.D.

I ran my own digital & e-commerce businesses from 2004 – 2018 with a variety of business models – grossing over $1 million in revenue in 2008 alone. During that time, I also hosted several popular trivia nights at local bars and pubs.  I wrote a few bestselling trivia books under my pen/stage name, Dr. Seven Phoenix. You can check them out on Amazon if you want.

In 2018, I went to work for a small agency in Eugene, Oregon before moving on to working with larger agencies in Portland, Atlanta, San Diego, Washington D.C., and beyond.

In 2022, I started Laurelhurst Digital so that I could put all the skills that I have I learned running my own e-commerce businesses, during graduate school, and working at large agencies to use for others — I want others to enjoy some of the same success that I have had over the years.
